US Discussion Day: Creating ethical use of biometrics to build public trust
22 June 2022
Embassy of Australia, Washington DC (In-person conference)
DATE
22 June 2022
LOCATION
Washington DC
ABOUT THE EVENT
The Biometrics Institute community believes in the merit of responsible and ethical use of biometric technology. Some real world examples of irresponsible or unethical use of the technology do exist, however, and have the potential to erode public trust in biometrics.
We have a wealth of experience within our network which we draw on to share information and guidance – this is exactly what we will do on the 22 June as we consider what sorts of biometric usages might be both practical and problematic in future.
WHY THIS DISCUSSION IS CRITICAL
- Biometric programmes continue to expand
- But not all are being implemented with due diligence
- As a result we have seen erosion of public trust and oversight bodies increase calls to ban biometrics
- There are tools to help address this challenge
