Biometric modality: Heartbeat – key considerations

Heartbeat biometric identification is considered to be very accurate and at a similar level to fingerprints or retina recognition. The heartbeat can be detected and processed through a range of different wearable devices but those using electrocardiograms (ECG) are the most widely used currently. Experimental research is being conducted into detecting heartbeats from a distance but the movement of the subject has been found to disrupt technologies such as radar or laser scanning.
