Conducted annually since 2010, this 17^th industry survey captures evolving global trends and perspectives across the community to guide decision-making, standards and good practice for the road ahead.

This year’s results point to a shift the industry has not yet named. Biometrics is no longer advancing as a set of separate technologies. Respondents frame progress, risk and priority around whole systems: how modalities combine, how AI ties them together, how threats spread across a deployment, and how governance and public trust hold it all in place.

As algorithms mature, so do their implementations. The practical questions now centre on interoperability, resilience and oversight rather than the accuracy of any single algorithm. And trust is shifting from trusting the technology, to trusting the implementation and the way it is governed.

These are the key trends that the Institute discusses and provides guidance for.

The findings from our 17^th annual survey are available in two formats: a full version for our members and an executive summary available to non-members on request.

How do members benefit?

The Industry Survey allows members to understand current trends and areas of growth or decline within biometrics, providing comparisons with previous years and offering insight into key issues at a granular level.

Who updates it?

The survey is conducted by the Biometrics Institute annually.
